The well-being of our crew is very important to us. That’s why Hammonia Reederei became a signatory of the Neptune Declaration. Many seafarers are at sea for a very long time, facing travel restrictions and problems when wanting or needing to go home to their families.
Long time periods at sea create increased stress. However, they must keep going. This is not only dangerous for their mental and physical health but also increases the risk of accidents. As a company, we want to do our best to support the people on board during these difficult times.
Many stakeholders in the maritime industry have come together to give support to the goals aimed at by the Neptune Declaration. We must stand together in support of our seafarers’ health and make sure crew changes happen smoothly and in a timely manner.
Action #1: Recognize seafarers as a key workers and give them priority access to Covid-19 vaccines.
Action #2: Establish and implement gold standard health protocols based on existing best practise.
Action #3: Increase collaboration between ship operators and charterers to facilitate crew changes.
Action #4: Ensure air connectivity between key maritime hubs for seafarers.
