Hammonia acts as technical advisor for fleet expansion - six new heavy lift ships

Shipping firm Intermarine is adding six new heavy lift ships to its fleet. Hammonia acts as technical advisor for this project.

The Hamburg-based ship manager, in collaboration with Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG, supports not only the US-based operator, but is also in charge of the building supervision for the CSSC yards (China State Shipbuilding Corporation), where the “Ecolift F900” should be built. The yard in Hudong will build four ships and the Wenchong yard the other two. The first delivery is planned for the summer of 2017, the other five should follow before the end of 2018.

The six 13,300 dwt heavy lift ships will be 150m long and 25.6m wide. They will be equipped with 2 cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 900 tons. All vessels will be equipped with MAN 7S40ME-B9,5 main engines and will reach a service speed of 15.3 kn. According to Frank Fischer, the managing director for tonnage procurement at Intermarine, the “Ecolift F900” vessels will have a higher stability and a lower fuel consumption as compared to the previous F class and are therefore an “efficient upgrade”.

Together with the six newbuilds Intermarine will operate twelve heavy lift vessels with lifting capacity of around 800 tons. “We are doing the technical management for many Intermarine-operated vessels and in December 2014 they asked us if we can also take over the newbuilds”, said a Hammonia representative. “We couldn’t say no”. Hammonia Reederei will also do the technical management of the newbuilding vessels after their delivery.
